»Freudenthaler Sensenhammer«

Scythes and sickles

The factory in around 1875

Visitors to the former scythe factory will experience a completely preserved group of factories just as they would have been at the close of the nineteenth century. The largest and very last factory of this kind in the whole of the Rhineland discontinued production in 1987.

In 1991, a pilot project run by the European Community elevated the "Sensenhammer" to cultural heritage status.

Guided tours and exhibitions

Members of the "Förderverein Freudenthaler Sensenhammer" put the mighty forging hammer into operation and ignite the hissing forges on guided tour days. Visitors are given a very vivid impression of how their ancestors lived and worked. This programme also includes an exhibition of the cultural history of the scythe and sickle and the presentation of historical handicrafts and manufacturing technologies.
